How about the existing Xilinx PPC405 boards like ml300? Should they somehow
use this new infrastructure?

You can drop sdram_init() completely. Its not needed anymore.
And perhaps we can remove the ext_bus_cntrl_init() call from start.S here too.
In this case you can remove init.S completely.
