U-Boot is always built in 32-bit mode for x86 at present. I just sent
3 patches to clarify that in the READMEs.

So you can't enable the 64-bit enhancements since the CPU is not in
64-bit mode in U-Boot (at least until the very last moment where it
jumps to Linux if the kernel is 64-bit).
