Let's start with the first one :).

Is this doing an SPL build? The header has a check for

#if defined(CONFIG_EFI_LOADER) && !defined(CONFIG_SPL_BUILD)

while the using code is only conditional on

#ifdef CONFIG_EFI_LOADER
