as you suggested, I used mmap and /dev/mem, and everything seems to work
properly!

Please, could you be more precise about how to proceed in case of kernel
2.6?

Ah, with 2.4.25 you should be able to access that memory directly with
mmap and /dev/mem, IIRC. With 2.6 it's not that simple any more.
