I think I've seen this before when trying to access a filesystem with
summary information, i.e. a filesystem generated by a kernel with
CONFIG_JFFS2_SUMMARY set.

I'm not sure if you can switch the summary feature on/off on the fly,
so you should probably try regenerating the filesystem from scratch
without summary information.
