In practice this should work with the latest u-boot (v2009.01).   
Additionally, changes have been going in for the next release v2009.03  
for 36-bit physical on 8572.

I was going to try putting 4G of DDR in a MPC8572 DS tomorrow.  I'll  
let you know what happens.
