Arguably the best choice, and the one I use as well.

One that I saw recently was http://warmcat.com/milksop/cheaptag.html but
you will have to dig around for software.  And sometimes, you can get free
stuff from vendor seminars like the upcoming
http://www.atmel.com/seminar/mcu/default_dgk.asp .  It just depends on if
it will work with your project, and if you can make it to the seminar.
