The PHY settings for this board needs to be different to pass signal
integrity test, hence not using the common setup_sata function.

I agree having a single binary would be good. Looking at the SPL DDR
initialization of various boards, it appears to me most developers are
choosing the ddr configuration either based on the processor (solo, quad
etc) or based on some eeprom table. Since this is currently not an
option for this board (same processor, no eeprom data available to
differentiate modules), I would like to continue using u-boot. I will
look more into the SPL option in the future and see if we can leverage
it to generate a single binary.

The board has a micron N25Q032A13ESE40F part (serial NOR flash).
dms-ba16_defconfig files has:
CONFIG_CMD_SF=y
CONFIG_SPI_FLASH=y
advantech_dms-ba16.h file has:
/* Serial Flash */
#ifdef CONFIG_CMD_SF
#define CONFIG_MXC_SPI
#define CONFIG_SF_DEFAULT_BUS 0
#define CONFIG_SF_DEFAULT_CS 0
#define CONFIG_SF_DEFAULT_SPEED 20000000
#define CONFIG_SF_DEFAULT_MODE SPI_MODE_0
#endif
Snippet of runtime log:
=> saveenv
Saving Environment to SPI Flash...
SF: Detected N25Q32 with page size 256 Bytes, erase size 4 KiB, total 4 MiB
Erasing SPI flash...Writing to SPI flash...done
Let me know if I mis-understood your question.
Thanks for all the feedback, appreciate it. Will be sending in v2 patch
with the fixes.
