No, I'm building with gcc-5:
$ arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc --version
arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc (Ubuntu 5.2.1-22ubuntu1) 5.2.1 20151010

The Ethernet adapter is connected to the regular USB host port.
