The text environment does support CONFIG options.

My summary of the above is that you see a lot of other/bigger problems
and want to solve those instead. But that is not the purpose of this
series.

This seems to be the nub of it. I am reluctant to invest more time in
this when there is so little mindshare about the problems we face. You
are reluctant to move it forward when you worry it will just be
another migration effort that leads nowhere.

I am more than happy to commit to migrating all boards over to bootstd
and removing the distro scripts from the environment. This is a
per-feature migration, rather than per-board.
