TK1-SOM dev board no boot

Hi guys, i have this dev board but when i went to sudo apt-get update, and sudo apt-get upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04, the device rebooted but is now saying the kernal image has failed to load 16.04, do you know why this would happen and how to fix it, i believe i need to download a new uboot and linux kernal for the device and flash it but i have no idea how to do this as i havnt found a github full of the steps to download the correct working linux version, nor a way to change the port so it would boot from usb to flash onto the emmc.

I have also tried to connect to the UART serial ports using the RX,TX and gnd as given below, but cannot see any sort of bootloader on the screen, i would appreciate the help.
