I suggest swapping patches 2 and 3: bump the multiplier first, then
add the tests at the final 8x value. That way the test references are
introduced once, instead of being written at 4x in patch 2 and
rewritten at 8x in patch 3. Patch 1 stays first as the self-contained
security fix for backporting.
