I see. Well, I've tested this version on several MPC5200B based boards
without noticing any issues.

Try the MPC5200 default configuration instead - mpc5200_defconfig

Ah, ok - this indeed covers a loooong period and many changes. But
recently - say, since kernel version 2.6.25 - the situation has much
improved.
